Paving the Way: Skincare Basics
Do you have no idea where to start when it comes to skincare?
If this is you, then here are some tips on where to start in getting your skin healthy.
Start with finding a:
Cleanser: Removes impurities, makeup, and excess oil from the skin.
Exfoliator: Sloughs off dead skin cells to promote cell turnover to create new skin and improve skin texture.
Toner: Balances the skin's pH and minimizes surface oil to prevent breakouts.
CLEANSER
Picking a cleanser that is right for your skin depends on if you are oily, dry, or sensitive. It is always good to start with a micellar cleansing water or oil cleanser (depending on your skin type) to remove any make-up and SPF first and then go in with a cleanser.
EXFOLIATOR
How often you use an exfoliator will vary from person to person but start off using one 1-2x a week and then you can always work your way up to using it more often! Be mindful if you have any active breakouts, you will want to avoid doing this, so you don’t spread bacteria around to different areas of your face. Also, don’t be so aggressive with a physical exfoliate, the ones you feel the grit. Use a small amount, add some water, and gently massage into the skin, really work in areas around your nose and where you are congested like your T-Zone (areas are forehead, nose, and chin)!
TONER
Toners are great for pore tightening, minimizing breakouts and blackheads, along with so many other benefits. My favorite one is ZO Skin Health Complexion Renewal Pads, if I had to choose one product, this would be it!! Toners are also kind of like “insurance for your face” once you cleanse your skin and you think it’s all clean, then you go in with a toner pad and you see everything you missed… just shows you that you must be better about your cleansing step and be thankful for that pad for getting everything you missed! 😊
Additional steps of a routine should include:
Moisturizing: Hydrates the skin to maintain its barrier function and overall health.
Sun Protection: Shields the skin from harmful UV rays to prevent premature aging and skin cancer.
MOISTURIZING
Making sure you use an appropriate amount of moisturizer; a little bit goes a long way. Remember you can always add more if your skin feels like it needs more. You just don’t want to clog your pores.
SUN PROTECTION
SPF is SO important! Finding one that is easy to apply, works for your skin type, and one that you like is key. Find one that you know you will put on every day. This is one of your top anti-aging products! 😊
Once you have cleansing, exfoliating, toning, moisture, and SPF down then you can move on to treatment products. Treatment products address specific skin concerns with targeted serums or creams. These treatment products target some concerns like firming, brightening, smoothing, evening skin tone, and tightening. There are creams with growth factors in them to promote collagen production and hyaluronic acid. Vitamin C to correct existing sun damage and pigment. Retinol is a form of Vitamin A to promote skin renewal. It reduces wrinkles, improves skin texture, it treats acne, and helps lighten and brighten your overall skin tone. There are different percentages within using retinol, low, medium, and high. It is good to speak to your Skin Expert when starting one because there are some things you need to know and be careful about. You also need to be educated on how much to use, when to use it, how often, and where to apply it. Retinol is a great anti-aging product that can really transform your skin! Be mindful to always use SPF while using a retinol in your nightly routine! 😊
Remember, it is always best to consult with a skincare professional or dermatologist to tailor a regimen that suits your individual needs and skin type! With the right routine and products, medical-grade skincare can help you achieve the healthy, glowing skin you desire.
In Spa Products – Where to Start?
We carry many skincare kits, but the ZO Skin Health “Daily Skincare Kit” is a good place to start. This kit includes Exfoliating cleanser, Exfoliating polish, Complexion renewal pads, and Daily Power Defense.
Why choose medical-grade skincare?
Medical-grade skincare products are formulated with higher concentrations of active ingredients than those found in over-the-counter products. These ingredients are often backed by clinical research and are designed to penetrate deeper into the skin, offering more effective treatment for various skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, aging, and rosacea. Additionally, these products are typically available through dermatologists or licensed skincare professionals, ensuring that you receive personalized recommendations and guidance.
These are your basics; these will help pave the way for your skin to be in a true healthy state! Once you use these products consistently for about a month or two then, you can look at your skin and see what your main concerns are and then you can start to add in treatment products to target more of your concern.
